The cave was discovered 1938 by Franco Anelli. Before the discovery of the cave it had only beenused as a dumping ground. The cave can be visited with a guide. Therre are two different tours, one is about a km long, the other about 2 km. The visit always starts in the Grave, a cave is 60 m deep, 100 m wide and 100 m in height. The second path leads up into the white grotto, with stalactites the color of alabaster . The second way is for a limited number of visitors to access as the cave has no natural ventilation. 5 Castel del Monte
This impressive octagonal castle has eight rooms on each floor and eight eight-sided towersI Inland from Barletta the castle stands on the one decent sized hill for miles around. Emperor Frederick II built the Castel del Monte in around 1240. It was one of around 200 fortresses that he erected, but the only one that was not rectangular. Its shape is amenable to all manner of esoteric, astrological and geometric interpretations. Then again, it could have been just a geometrically pleasing hunting lodge. After the middle ages, the Castel del Monte enjoyed a life as a prison, and was later abandoned. It’s definitely worth a drive out to see this castle.
6 Wining & Dining
In the evening, there are plenty of excellent restaurants where you can happily spend time sampling excellent Italian table wine and fresh seafood. Most of Bari’s produce comes directly from local farms and the sea, making it deliciously fresh. In the city centre, a number of bars have live music and late night entertainment. Bari has four notable playhouses with Italian theatre, although you might even prefer to catch a subtitled movie instead.
